I’ve been contemplating whitening my teeth for some time now, but haven’t for two reasons. First, it’s really expensive. I mean, $40? I can think of so many other things I could buy with 40 bucks! The second thing, I just can’t get past all of the yucky chemicals that I can’t pronounce, so I move on. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to make my own homemade natural whitening toothpaste recipe and see if it worked. I’m a coffee and tea drinker, and my teeth weren’t horribly stained, but not really white either. I had my doubts about the outcome, but man…it worked! WHOOP! I can’t tell you how great the timing is for this since I am not only going to a blog conference next week, but I’m also speaking. Here is what I used for my whitening paste…
I mixed 1/4 cup of baking soda, 1/3 cup of hydrogen peroxide and 12 drops of Peppermint Essential Oils. The peppermint is an added bonus. It not only makes the toothpaste taste better, but has extra whitening properties. If you don’t have the peppermint oil, it’s totally okay to skip that ingredient, but I love it so much better with it!
I mixed the ingredients together and stored them in a small ball jar.
I brushed my teeth with this mixture 3 times each week for two minutes each time, and these were the results. Please excuse my teeny tiny lips ;)
I do not recommend brushing your teeth with this mixture more than that because the baking soda is an abrasive, but definitely has teeth cleaning properties.
The Peppermint Essential Oil from Young Living has so many other benefits as well!
